I ask that all of you pray for the team and myself as we go to El Salvador this friday, we will be gone until the 22nd of this month. We are going there to finish the water pumps and systems that will enable over 10,000 people to have fresh water, it is a HUGE blessing to be able to serve our God. Thanks for all your prayers thus far, in his grip. Ernie

Dear Carl et al,

It's a long story, so suffice it to say I had a routine back surgery go wrong back in December '06. I have been much worse ever since. You name treatment options and I've tried them. Three years and over $30,000 later I remain essentially housebound and unable to sit. For one that has been quite active and interactive the relative inactivity and isolaion has been a battle of depression on top of chronic pain that - at times - is humanly intolerable. At best, it NEVER leaves. Please pray that I learn all that God wants to teach me through this prolonged season of testing and temptaion. God tests us so we grow at the same time Satan tempts us to fail. Honesly, I am batting about 500 in the test/tempt equation. Each painful day requires me to ration my abilities to administrate Frontline Resources from a makeshift, stand up, home office. Pain and/or drug induced insomnia is part of the big picture that began three years ago following a routine 45 minute arthoscopic surgery for a disc hernitation at L-4 / L-5. As Kenn Gulliksen - in his 15th year of pain and physical limitations - tells me, "each new pain-filled day is an opportunity to offer God the sacrifice of praise. I agree, however, in all honesty I have, too often, not taken advantage of this opportunity. Yet, I am growing. I know more than ever why Paul said "I have learned to be content in whatever state I am in".

Please pray that patience has her perfect work in this long-term trial/temptation I am in. I don't want to waste or forget the purpose for this season of my life. Moreover, would to God He can use it somehow to His glory through and beyond it.

Thank you for your love and prayers,

"Ian"

Ian,
I'm praying that God heals you. I'm sorry this happened to you. I can't imagine what you are going through. I appreciate what Kenn Guliksen said about about the opportunity to offer God the sacrifice of praise. He's right. Even though it's hard to keep this perspective in the painful moments that seem to be sucking all hope out of you, it's the only way to make it through this valley.
When I go through tough times, I'm often reminded of Lamentations and how "Great is thy Faithfulness" just pops out like a beacon on light in the midst of the prophet's darkness and overwhelming despair:
22 Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.

23 They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.

He will continue to carry you. He hears your cries.

Ian, there are no words that I know of that can ease your pain and suffering, so I will pray.
My God bless and somehow sustain you in the midst of this very difficult time of testing and suffereing..

God bless,
